Title

Larry Gottfried

Description

Larry Gottfried played tennis for Trinity in the late '70s, was an All-American in 1977, 1978, and 1979, and handed John McEnroe his only collegiate career loss. He played professionally as well, proving his dominance in the tennis world. He now is a tennis professional and coach.
He had played McEnroe many times growing up but had not yet beat him. In the match against Stanford Coach Bob McKinley put him at one for his chance. In an interview with him, Larry Gottfried accounted the match as a special memory but he was very humble, reinforcing the idea that McEnroe was the better player.
